Set Up Roaming Service

Overview

Set up roaming service with Qwest.net connection software

Qwest.net iconIf you have Qwest.net connection software installed onto your computer (you click a Qwest.net icon on your desktop to connect to Qwest.net), follow the same method as for dialing in from a different location. None of the remaining instructions pertain to you.


Set up roaming service without Qwest.net connection software

Netscape icon If you do not have Qwest.net connection software installed onto your computer (you click the Netscape Navigator icon on your desktop to connect to Qwest.net), follow the instructions below for your operating system:

Microsoft Windows 95

To change your location, you can either create a new location or you can select a location that has been set up previously.

  • If you are changing your dialer to dial in from a location from which you have not previously dialed in to your account, you will need to create a new location:
    1. Double-click the dialer icon you would like to change.
    2. Click Dial Properties.
    3. Change any necessary information.
      Note: For specific information, refer to the bulleted items in step 9 of the instructions in Setting up a new dialing profile.
  • If you will be dialing from a location from which you have previously dialed, you will need to select a pre-created location:
    1. Double-click the dialer icon you would like to change.
    2. Click the arrow box next to the Dialing from box and select your new location from the drop-down list.
  • If you are changing the dialer to dial in to a number which you have not previously used, you will need to change the number into which you will be dialing,
    1. Highlight the dialer you would like to change in the Dial Up Networking folder.
    2. From the File menu, select Properties.
    3. Change any necessary information.


Microsoft Windows NT

  1. Double-click My Computer on the desktop (if you have renamed My Computer then click on the new name).
  2. Click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  3. Select the dialer you would like to change from the Phonebook entry to dial drop-down list.
  4. To change your location:
    1. Click More. A menu will open.
    2. From the menu, select Edit entry and modem properties.
    3. Change any necessary information.
      Note: Refer to the instructions in Set up a new dialing profile for specific information.
  5. To change the city into which you will be dialing:
    1. Click Location. You will see a Dialing Properties window.
    2. Change any necessary information.
      Note: Refer to the instructions in Set up a new dialing profile for specific information.


Macintosh

  1. From the Apple menu, select Control Panels.
  2. Select TCP/IP.
  3. Under Connect Via select FreePPP and save changes to current configuration.
  4. From the top right corner of the Mac desktop, click the Dialer icon and select Open FreePPP Setup.
    • If you are changing your dialer to dial in from a location from which you have not previously dialed in to your account, you will need to create a new location:
      1. Select From: New Location.
      2. Enter the new Location name.
      3. Enter the new Area code.
      4. Add any necessary information.
        Note: Refer to the instructions in Set up a new dialing profile for specific information.
    • If you are changing the dialer to dial in to a number which you have not previously used, you will need to change the number into which you will be dialing:
      1. From the FreePPP Setup window, click on the arrow near the bottom left corner to see more options.
      2. Select the Locations tab.
      3. Highlight the location you would like to change.
      4. Click Edit.
      5. Change any necessary information.
