Overview

Q: What is a cookie?

A: Cookies are small data files that a Web server asks your computer to store. When a cookie is stored on your computer, it makes it possible for a Web site to provide you with personalized service. The cookie set by the Qwest.net server allows us to provide you with a customized version of the Qwest.net Web site with information and events for your city and state location.

Q: Why does Qwest.net set a cookie?

A: When you sign in to your personalized Qwest.net start page (personalization is available to Qwest.net subscribers ONLY), a cookie stores your user name and password (until you exit your browser). If you select the Save my Username and Password box on the Sign in page, a cookie will be saved for you so you do not need to provide them again when returning to Qwest.net to view your personalized choices. The information in the cookie is encrypted, providing a secure and convenient way for you to get your personalized Web pages.

The cookie is set and saved unless you:

  • Sign out
  • Sign in from a different PC
  • Delete your cookies
  • Set up a new PC
  • Change your password

If you have done any of the functions listed, you will need to accept cookies again. Instructions for accepting cookies in Netscape, Internet Explorer 4.x and Internet Explorer 5.x are provided here for you.
